Cinda Heeren DSSI Instructor
Cinda Heeren has held positions as a Lecturer in the Departments of Computer Science, Statistics, and Mathematics at the California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo (1990-1993), as a Teaching Assistant and Teaching Associate in the Department of Statistics at the University of California at Santa Barbara (1993), as a Research Assistant in the Department of Computer Science, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (1997-2003), and as a Lecturer of the undergraduate Discrete Mathematics course in the Department of Computer Science at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (various times during the period 1998-2005). Dr. Heeren received a B.S. in mathematics and computational sciences from Stanford University in 1990, a M.S. in Operations Research from Stanford in that same year, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, in 2004. She has a strong interest in K-12 outreach and education. She has presented at numerous work- shops including UIUC/ROE Novice Teacher Support Program, Expanding Your Horizons in Science and Mathematics conference for middle school girls, UIUC Engineering Open House, AIMS Drive-In Workshop for middle school teachers, MathManiaCS summer teacher training workshops, and the UIUC and College Board sponsored Java Engagement for Teacher Training (JETT) workshop. In addition, she has been the Director of Diversity Programs and faculty advisor to the Women in Computer Science student organization for the UIUC Department of Computer Science 2004-2005.
