Dan Roth Center Director
Dan Roth is the MIAS Center's Director and the research director of CCICADA, a DHS COE on Advanced Data Analytics. He is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) and the Beckman Institute of Advanced Science and Technology. Prof. Roth is a Fellow of AAAI and a Willett Faculty Scholar of the College of Engineering and holds faculty positions at the Statistics and Linguistics departments and at the Graduate School of Library and Information Science.
Professor Roth's research spans theoretical work in machine learning and intelligent reasoning with a specific focus on learning and inference in natural languages processing and intelligent access to textual information. Professor Roth has published over 150 papers in machine learning, natural language processing and knowledge representation and reasoning and has developed a learning system and natural language processing tools that have been used widely in this field. Prof. Roth has given keynote talks in major conferences, including AAAI, The Conference of the American Association Artificial Intelligence, EMNLP, The Conference on Empirical Methods in Natural Language Processing, and ECML, the European Conference on Machine Learning. Roth is or has been on the editorial board of several journals in his research areas and is currently an associate editor for the Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research and the Machine Learning Journal.
Professor Roth received his B.A Summa cum laude in Mathematics from the Technion, Israel and his Ph.D in Computer Science from Harvard University in 1995.
